Prayer & Action for Peace
& UN Peacekeepers
by
Jim McGinnis, inspired by
his new book
As we continue
to pray and act for peace around the globe, especially the week of May
29, International Day of the UN Peacekeepers, please consider forwarding
this weekly prayer & action request to your networks.
This week I was touched by an op-art piece in the New York Times,
"Memorial of the Mind" (5/25/09), especially the drawings of the utter
destructiveness of war; plus the stories of Iraqi refugees from the
Voices of Creative Nonviolence and scroll
down to his articles.
Then go to this prayer from "Praying for Peace & UN Peacekeepers" (p. 44 in
the book) and the action suggestions that follow.
Prayer of Petition.
O God of hope and peace, protect the more than 100,000 UN peacekeepers
deployed around our world to bring warring parties to negotiate peace,
enforce ceasefires, and rebuild hope, as well as societies devastated by
war. Inspired by their courageous and selfless service, may we become
peacemakers and peacekeepers in our home, community, and in the political
process in our community, state, and nation.
Action.
Consider the advocacy suggestions of the
Better World Campaign for
urging our political leaders to work more cooperatively with the United
Nations; plus supporting UN Peacekeepers through its
letter-writing campaign.
